Agia Irini Church

The Agia Irini Church is located north of Eledio Village just off the main E622 road between the villages of Eledio and Amargeti, taking a left turn onto the nature trail. Follow the road for half a kilometre and you will come across the ruins of original 18th century Agia Irini Church.

The Agia Irini Church close to Eledio Village

The 18th century Church of Agia Irine is on the site of the old village of Eleidi. During the earthquakes of 1953, the church of became dilapidated but not destroyed.

However, due to the indifference of the inhabitants, the Government and the Metropolis of Paphos, it collapsed after nothing was done by anyone to maintain it.

Today the church of Agia Irini lies in ruins as can be seen from these photographs. In the new village of Eledio they built a small temple, which was once again dedicated to Saint Irene as a replacement for the old temple.
